Massabesic Adult and Community Education (MACE) is proud to celebrate the 19 graduates who have earned their high school equivalency (HiSET) since July 1, 2024—with 8 more students on track to graduate before the end of this school year. Earning a high school credential opens the door to a wide range of opportunities. Our recent MACE graduates are considering career paths in fields like education, construction, electrical work, CNC machining, and military service. A high school diploma or equivalency is more than just a piece of paper—it’s a critical stepping stone toward a stable, meaningful career. In fact, 63% of jobs in the U.S. require at least a high school diploma, and individuals who earn theirs see, on average, a 53% increase in income over ten years. Whether you're looking for a better job, a more consistent schedule, or a fresh start, completing your high school credential is a powerful first step. We invite the entire community to join us in celebrating the accomplishments of these hardworking individuals at our upcoming graduation ceremony on June 18. All are welcome to attend. Contact Massabesic Adult and Community Education at 207-247-2022 to begin your journey today!

As we wrap up our Reading Month celebration, we'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the 17 guest readers who joined us to make this event truly special! Their participation helped bring the joy of reading to life and added so much to our activities. In addition, we had over 40 participants engage in our Boomers Bookworm program, showing their passion for books and learning. Don’t forget to register your child here so they can claim their tickets for this special baseball event! To close the month, raffles were pulled for those who submitted their literacy challenge tickets, and 10 lucky winners earned a free book at our upcoming Spring Book Fair event! We hope everyone had a fantastic time exploring new stories and expanding their imaginations this month!

As part of our animal unit, the Kindergarten and First Grade teams engaged learners in an exciting owl pellet activity that allowed them to explore the fascinating diets of owls. During the activity, they carefully dissected owl pellets—regurgitated masses of undigested materials such as bones, fur, and feathers—from the owl’s meals. By examining the contents, they uncovered the bones of small mammals, birds, or insects that owls have eaten. This hands-on activity provided a fun and engaging way for our young learners to deepen their understanding of the animals they are studying!

Our districtwide shared learning experience for first grade was an exciting presentation by Wildlife Encounters, hosted at Alfred Elementary School. Our students had the incredible opportunity to learn about a variety of animals, their habitats, and the importance of wildlife conservation. Through interactive discussions and up-close encounters with live animals, the presentation was both educational and engaging. It was a memorable and enriching experience that sparked a love for animals and environmental stewardship in our young learners.

We’re so excited to host the Within the Whale Program at Shapleigh Memorial School this past Thursday. This program offered a unique educational adventure that brought the wonders of the ocean to life! This hands-on, traveling outreach program lets our learners step inside a life-size inflatable humpback whale to explore its 3D anatomy up close. It was a one-of-a-kind experience for our school! Thank you Jessica for sharing Chunk with us!

It is with great excitement and pride that we announce the recipients of the Model Mustang Staff Award for the month of February! This award is a tribute to those outstanding individuals who embody the qualities of a true “Model Mustang”; they inspire, lead, foster positivity, persevere, and excel in all that they do. Each Model Mustang was nominated by colleagues who took the time to acknowledge and celebrate their coworkers’ exceptional contributions to our district. Their hard work and commitment have not gone unnoticed, and we are grateful for the positive impact they have within RSU 57! This month's raffle winner is Sophie Manning, Science Teacher at Massabesic Middle School! "Sophie is a positive, dedicated, and reliable team member. She is always thinking of ways to improve our school and team culture. She has incredible relationships with her students and holds them to a high standard. She is involved both in school and out of school with coaching and is on various boards and committees - all for the better of our students. She inspires me as an educator and is a pleasure to work with each day." Click the link below to view the full list of Model Mustang Award recipients. Officer Pellerin came to visit our Pre-k classroom and eat ice cream just like in the story, Max’s Dragon Shirt. He talked to us about getting lost and what you should do to find help. He also answered some great off topic questions.

Last week, RSU 57's K-1 students had an unforgettable shared experience with Sparks' Ark! David Sparks, a dedicated wildlife rehabilitator, founded Sparks' Ark with the mission of rescuing and caring for local animals. Through this incredible program, David is able to bring these animals into the community in an engaging and educational way. Our young learners were captivated by the incredible animals and the stories behind their rescue!
