Students from Shapleigh Memorial and Alfred Elementary enjoyed a virtual presentation by our Nutrition Department that featured our Harvest of Month; Proteins! They were able to learn fun and nutritional facts regarding local Maine eggs, as well as sample delicious classic deviled eggs made directly in their school kitchen. A huge shoutout to Girard Farm in Waterboro for providing the eggs used in our recipe demonstration and samples!

It is with great excitement and pride that we announce the recipients of the Model Mustang Staff Award for the month of March! Last week, RSU 57 received a donation of books from Hilltop Boilers Maple Syrup in celebration of Read Across America Week! Owners Michael and Jennifer Bryant generously provided over 200 copies of "How to Tap a Maple" by Stephanie Mulligan to all RSU 57 third graders. The donation also included an accompanying activity book created in collaboration with Hilltop Boilers. We are so grateful for this incredible gift! Please join the RSU 57 School Board's Curriculum Committee for a Community Forum on Tuesday, April 9 from 7pm-8pm in the MHS East Training Center. A presentation will be given about Strategic Plan progress since its adoption 6 months ago, as well as what workforce skills are needed in today's job markets. Local community members and business leaders are welcome to join in on our discussion focused on preparing RSU 57 graduates after graduation! We hope to see you there.

During National School Social Work Week, we honor and celebrate the contributions of RSU 57 social workers in our school communities. These dedicated professionals serve as advocates, counselors and mentors who provide invaluable resources and supports to students which extend far beyond the classroom. They are true champions of student welfare and we are grateful to have them on our team. As part of our Bus Driver Appreciation Day, we welcomed our Shapleigh drivers and monitors in for a yummy breakfast. They also received token of appreciation from our PTC, cards from our learners, and a big thank you from our school during our Friday Share Time. Thank you for all you do getting our children to and from school safely each day!

“As a bus driver, I have the freedom to enjoy summers, holidays, and weekends off - it’s been a game-changer! I can finally enjoy life outside of work on my own terms and spend quality time with my family.”

Learners were provided different activities at the end of January to help pull together their understanding of what it means to be a respectful to ourselves, each other and/or our environment. Those that returned their completed activities were entered into a drawing for a Shapleigh Memorial School t-shirt! Congratulations to our winners Carter and Emerson!
