In collaboration with the Shapleigh Public Library, we will be hosting a summer reading program. In addition, we will be participating in the Maine DOE Read to Ride Program. Learners that read over 500 minutes this summer will be eligible to be entered into a raffle to win a new bike! These two programs can be done and tracked together. Please use the link to sign up and the materials/schedule will be sent home on Thursday. We do highlight those completing the program at the start of school during our first Share Time! In December of 2022, RSU #57 was granted $25,000 from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation National Paralysis Resource Center to build an ADA compliant playground at the Massabesic East building. Known as the "Little Mustang Meadow", this play area will be accessed during the school day by elementary age students who attend high needs special education programming in Waterboro. The accessible ground cover will provide greater access to our young learners as well as to our community members who may have mobility challenges. Construction of the playground finished on June 8. Although there are still a few remaining features to be added, the Little Mustang Meadow is NOW OPEN to our students and community members! Click the video below to watch the transformation. RSU #57 is appreciative of the generosity and support that we have received from the Reeve Foundation and are excited to have this feature in our community. https://youtu.be/ZCVzZlw7JFw

It is that time of the year again for the Shapleigh Memorial School yearbooks! Our yearbooks contain school photos and classroom photos for each grade level as well as a special section that highlights our 5th graders. The cost for our yearbook this year is $16.00. Order forms must be returned by June 1st. Just a reminder, that all 5th graders will receive a yearbook as part of their gift from the PTC during the 5th grade celebration event.

Shapleigh students had a Harvest of the Month kitchen visit with our district nutrition department. They learned about blueberry harvesting in Maine, then zipped on over to the kitchen watch a 'blueberry smoothie' being made, followed by a taste test of course!

Classrooms did an amazing run with our recent coin challenge and raised over $1800, which exceeded the $1500 goal that was set. Due to all their hard work we had 8 staff members volunteer to be “pied.” It was a great treat enjoyed by all. See the video here: https://youtu.be/Lzh2ew-bU0k

Kindergarten finished off their construction unit this week with a "Touch a Truck" activity. They were able to see and learn about an ambulance, tractor, utility vehicle, semi truck and an antique car. Thank you to our volunteers for bringing in some unique vehicles for our learners to look at.
